Photo credit: dominicacentral.comDominican born and former International Monetary Fund Economist Dr. Thomson Fountaine has said that he is ready for a court battle with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. At a press conference last week, the legal team representing the Prime Minister Skerrit indicated that a lawsuit had been filed at the High Court of Justice in Roseau to seek legal redress against Fountain who they claim started allegations that the prime minister sold Dominican passports to “known criminals”. However in a statement issued this week, Fountain says he is ready for the battle.“I am quite happy about this because it will provide me with an opportunity to present before a court of law the evidence that we have in support of the allegations that we have been making all along that there has been the wanton sale of the Dominican passport to criminals, crooks and to members of the underworld. It is a good opportunity for us to present this information and also for us to get the main actors under oath in a court of law to speak the truth of this matter to the Dominican public,” he explained.Fountaine said while he was given an opportunity to apologize and pay damages of $250,000 to the prime minister, “I also felt that the whole demand to apologize was a waste of time because everything that I have written to date was the truth and I was not about to apologize for the truth.”He said “the truth of the matter is Dominica has been in the sale of passports to men of less than noble repute and the very image of Dominica is being affected by it. I make no apologize for it; there is no reason to apologize for the truth. What needs to be done however is for the government of Dominican to own up to their mistakes and to come clean to the Dominican people and let the Dominican people know exactly how many passports were sold, who they were sold to and how many consulates the Government of Dominica has all over the world representing Dominica’s interest.” Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
