HARAHAN, La. – The No. 17 Louisiana Tech bowling team knocked off three nationally-ranked opponents on the final day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational, claiming its first tournament victory of the 2018-19 season. On day three, the Lady Techsters posted a 13-3-2 record in all games across three matchups against top-25 squads. Named to the all-tournament team, sophomore Ashley Channell posted a weekend average of 200.60 and toppled 1,003 pins, the third-most of any bowler at the event.Valparaiso’s Kendra Tryniski was named the tournament MVP after knocking down 1,024 pins, and Stephen F. Austin placed a pair on the all-tournament team in Dakotah Hazlewood and Paige Beeney.The tournament featured four other Southland Bowling League teams: No. 4 Sam Houston State, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, No. 10 Tulane and [RV] Valparaiso. The SBL contingent secured five of the top six seeds heading in to bracket play and placed five teams in the top-seven in the final standings.No. 4 seed LA Tech upended No. 3 Tulane, 4.5-1.5, in the first round before sweeping top-seed SHSU in four games. In the championship, the Lady Techsters jumped out to a 3.5-0.5 lead over No. 2 SFA, but the Lady Jacks stormed back to tie it. LA Tech claimed the win with a 129-118 score in the roll-off.Sam Houston State went on to finish fourth, falling to No. 11 North Carolina A&T in the third-place game, 4-3. Tulane bested UAB 4-2 in the battle for fifth place, and Valpo also won 4-2 over Alabama State to secure seventh place. Six of the eight SBL teams are back in action at the Track Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State from Nov. 2-4 at Emerald Bowl in Houston. The field includes SHSU, LA Tech, Arkansas State, SFA, Tulane and Youngstown State.Valpo and Vanderbilt are set to participate in the Bearcat Hammer Open, hosted by Division II powerhouse No. 2 McKendree, from Oct. 26-28 at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.
