Interim Land Taskforce Established

first_imgFollowing the end of the extended tenure of the Land Commission (LC), President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has established an Interim Land Taskforce (ILTF).The ILTF, established on March 18, is charged with the responsibility of undertaking and maintaining sustained legislative engagement to facilitate the speedy passage of the Liberia Land Authority Bill.The Land Taskforce is also required to maintain continued engagement with partners, donors and other land sector stakeholders in order to ensure that they remain committed to providing support and assistance to the proposed Liberia Land Authority, and to the country’s land reform program within the context of ongoing and future projects and programs.Ensuring that the provision of essential land related services, which were being provided by or coordinated through the former Land Commission, are continued during the intervening period while awaiting passage of the Land Authority Bill, is also among ILTF’s responsibilities.The President has appointed the Chairman of the former LC, Dr. Cecil T. O. Brandy as Chairman of the ILTF. Others appointed to the ILTF include the Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy (MLME), represented by George Miller, Assistant Minister of the Department of Lands, Survey and Cartography; and Philomena Bloy Sayeh, Director-General of the Center for National Documents and Records Agency (CNDRA). The appointments took effect on March 18 this year.The offices of the ILTF are located in the headquarters of the defunct Land Commission, in the Goodridge Building, Jallah Town Road, between 8th and 9th Streets in Sinkor, Monrovia.In establishing the Task Force, the President indicated that the supporting staff of the ILTF will be seconded from the MLME, CNDRA and former staff of the now defunct Land Commission. The process of seconding the relevant staff to the ILTF has begun..The Task Force started work during the first week of April.
