first_imgVIEWPOINT: BY OWEN CURRANThe IMF has called for a property tax on the family home. It is due to come in next year and will be introduced at a ”suitably high level”Cabinet meetings are due to restart on the 4th of September, and it looks likely that the assesment method and the level of tax will be decided at the first few meetings.A report drawn up by an ”expert group ”was presented to Phil Hogan in June. The fact that the contents of this are being kept fairly quiet is probably a sign that the proposals are likely to be extremely un-popular.The Government has promised the Trioka that it will raise a fresh 1.25 Billion in tax revenue next year. It has also promised  that their will be no increase in income tax rates. So these figures indicate that the property tax is likely to be introduced at a fairly high level, it could be around the 400 euro level. At its last cabinet meeting before the summer break, the cabinet gave the control of the property tax to the Revenue Commisioners. The Revenue Commisioners will be no better placed to pursue the property tax,if they do not have a full register of home-owners.This is why it is vital to hold firm and not register for the household tax.Yes ,that means the possiblility of court cases over the next few months. However our strength is in our numbers.Because there is still a huge number boycotting they will only ever be able to take a minority to court.Anyone who is unlucky enough to be summonsed will have legal advice and support from the campaign, and will not go to court alone. The campaign will also be organizing protests on the day of the court cases, to show our anger at people going to court for not paying an un-just tax, while the real criminals that wrecked our economy carry on if it never happened .They are quite content for us to pay the price.through this un-just tax but also through un-employment and emigration and the cut-backs to our services that has been on going over the past 4 years. Our advice isDont respond to any reminder letter you may receive.Get involved in the campaign, set up your own local group for leafleting etcThe more people who get involved , and who begin organizing the stronger the campaign will beImmediately inform the campaign if you receive a summoms in the future.Remember the Government want your money to hand over to the Troika- we have the ability to refuse – This is where our power liesOwen Curran    Cant Pay Wont Pay Cloich Cheann Fhaola   , Campaign against the Household ,Water and Septic Tank Taxes.
