Virat Kohli becomes 22nd Indian batsman to get out hit-wicket in Tests

first_imgVirat Kohli today provided 22nd instance of an Indian batsman getting out hit-wicket in Tests. He is the 20th Indian to suffer this fate. The difference in count is because of Mohinder Amarnath, who suffered this fate on three occasions (only Dennis Compton got out in this way on more occasions than him in all Tests- five times).Interestingly Virat had also been out hit-wicket in an One-Day International – vs England at Cardiff in 2011 off the bowling of Graeme Swann after making 107. This makes him only the second Indian batsman to be out in this fashion in both Tests and ODIs. Nayan Mongia is the only other to suffer this fate.On day four of the first Test against England in Rajkot, Kohli looked in fine touch and struck some crisp boundaries in his knock of 40 before the right-hander’s back leg hit the stumps and dislodged a bail while trying to pull a delivery from legspinner Adil Rashid. Kohli stood at the wicket in disbelief before trudging off with his team at 361/6.Complete list of Indian batsmen getting out hit-wicket in Tests: Player Score Vs Venue Season L Amarnath 13 WI Madras 1948-49 ML Apte 30 WI Georgetown 1952-53 CG Borde 96 WI Delhi 1958-59 NS Tamhane 5 WI Delhi 1958-59 BK Kunderan 2 AUS Bombay BS 1959-60 DN Sardesai 28 ENG Kanpur 1961-62 VL Manjrekar 0 WI Port-of-Spain 1961-62 Hanumant Singh 0 NZ Bombay BS 1964-65 ML Jaisimha 1 NZ Delhi 1964-65 S Abid Ali 78 AUS Sydney 1967-68 S Madan Lal 7 ENG Old Trafford 1974 AV Mankad 43 ENG Edgbaston 1974 BP Patel 21 ENG Calcutta 1976-77 DB Vengsarkar 48 AUS Brisbane 1977-78 M Amarnath 20 PAK Lahore 1978-79 M Amarnath 2 AUS Bombay WS 1979-80 S Venkataraghavan 0 WI Kingston 1982-83 M Amarnath 37 PAK Faisalabad 1984-85 NR Mongia 34 WI Mohali 1994-95 SS Das 39 AUS Calcutta 2000-01 VVS Laxman 130 WI St John’s 2001-02 V Kohli 140 ENG Rajkot 2016-17advertisementlast_img
