Last week, Samsung quietly announced its first Android Go phone, the Galaxy J2 Core. The new entry-level phone from the company looks to offer basic hardware and a stripped down, optimised version of Android Oreo software for first time smartphone users. The Galaxy J2 Core is now available for purchase in India and has been priced at Rs 6,190. The device will be available in three colours – Gold, Black and Blue – and will be available across all retail stores and Samsung’s online store.The Galaxy J2 joins aa handful of Android Go phones that have been launched in India this year including the Nokia 1, Nokia 2.1 and Micromax Bharat Go. These Android Go devices run a version of Android Oreo that is designed to work smoothly on phones that are low on RAM and storage. The software brings a custom set of Google Go apps that will take up minimum storage space. You can also find specific Go apps in a dedicated space within the Play Store. The software also promises the latest security updates as well so that the entry-level device stays up-to-date and secure.The Galaxy J2 Core sports a 5-inch display with a 960×540 pixel resolution. It is powered by an Exynos 7570 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. The Android Go software inside will offer preloaded apps like Google Go, Gmail Go, Maps Go and more. The Galaxy J2 Core bears an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie sensor. Notably, Samsung says that it is also introducing a ‘Make in India’ feature that will allow consumers to direct social media content to an external memory card.
